I am a descendant of Charles Leven Chalmers, who was born in Virginia in 1825 and moved to Louisiana sometime before 1860. According to our family tradition, we are descended from Jacobites who were banished to America after Culloden, but I have not been able to find any records mentioning my great-great-grandfather or his ancestry prior to his relocation to Louisiana, so I have been unable to confirm this. If anyone has any advice or knowledge of the Chalmers family in Virginia, please share it with me. Thanks.
